Greetings from N.B.
Well, two days down. We've made it to Grand Falls, New Brunswick where we are staying the night in the slick, new Best Western. The travelling has been going well - very smooth and lotsa sun.
First day we got to Montreal and stayed at Nat & Blair's place. Went and had fish'n'chips and Alexander Keith's beer at the local pub to remind us of our destination.
Today was a long haul but new to all of us. Travelling on the south shore of the St. Lawrence, we made our way to Quebec and then Riviere-du-Loup. Nice views of farms and white church steeples punctuate the green vistas. It did drag for a bit and the last 40 minutes before RdL were tiresome. Turned onto the 185 and headed south towards New Brunswick. The road was like a rollercoaster on Valium - long, slow grades that made the car and van (both loaded to the hilt!) moan. The up-and-down towards the sea was also good for blocking up our ears!
The N.B. border offered a nice tourist stop and photos at the provincial sign. The afternoon air was fantastic and golden. Then we cruised on at a good clip (maximum limit is 110km here!) towards Edmunston. It's a cute town - ALL the houses here are white! - with a giant mill of some kind right in the middle of it. It looks really funny.
Not much farther down the way and we reached our destination in Grand Falls - so named for the absolutely magnificent gorge and waterfall in the area. Ate a hearty italian dinner and now its time for bed - early morning tomorrow.
Last day of driving on the holiday Monday. We're taking the route across the width of the province to Plaster Rock and on towards Mirimachi. Then we turn south to Moncton and head into Nova Scotia. Past Amherst and Truro and finally to Halifax! Yay!
Hope everyone is well. Hugs and kisses from the road.
